Why do you do this?

Well to be honest, I’m historically not much into Christmas at all (for reasons), but we’re planning on starting a family soon so I’m using my love of technical challenges and shiny things to help me find my Christmas spirit.

How many Lights?

We have 14755 pixels, each pixel contains 3 or 4 light emitting diodes (channels), so depending on how pendantic you want to be with your definition of "light" 14755 pixels or 44265 channels all being driven by 5 controllers.

How long does it take you to set up?

Depending on the weather, a day, or 3.

How much does it cost to run?

If we’ve had any sun for the day, nothing. If not then around 30 cents per night.

There are setup costs, and each song has to be actually purchased for legal reasons, but I only have to do that once per song.

Where did you buy your tree?

That’s a complicated question, as far as I know they don’t just sell 4.2 meter tall pixel Christmas trees, this tree is made up of various components bought from shops all over and a cuouple of custom cut/welded bits thanks to a neighbor.
